Sturgeon Moon
August’s full moon is called the Sturgeon Moon. This full moon is named after the Sturgeon Fish as these large fish would come by the numbers to the lakes during this month.
It’s also been called the green corn moon, the grain moon, and the red moon for the reddish hue it often takes on in the summer haze.
August’s full moon name is related specifically to the lake sturgeon. There are over two dozen species of sturgeon in the world. The lake sturgeon is a North American freshwater fish.
