With 4th of July just around the corner, add this great dessert to your table of red, white and blue. This Red, White & Blue swirl cake is sure to be a hit. With the simplest of ingredients and so many decorating options, you can’t go wrong.

All you need is cake mix, and food coloring and there you have it, a masterpiece.

So many ways to decorate this masterpiece, you can decorate with white frosting and use red and blue sprinkles, you can even use this cake for the American Flag Cake Dessert and have double the red, white & blue fun.

Red, White and Blue Swirl Cake

It's so pretty after it bakes, you'll have a hard time wanting to decorate it.

Equipment

  • 1 13×9 cake pan
  • 1 Large mixing bowl
  • 1 Electric hand mixer
  • 1 toothpick Can also use spaghetti or chop stick
  • 1 Cooling racks

Ingredients
  

  • 1 box Pilsbury White cake mix Can use any kind or flavor of cake mix
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 10 drops red food coloring
  • 10 drops blue food coloring

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350 °F
  • Grease 13×9" cake pan with non-stick baking spray, or with butter and flour.
  • In a large mixing bowl combine, cake mix, water, oil and eggs.
    1 box Pilsbury White cake mix, 1 cup water, ½ cup oil, 3 eggs
  • Mix with electric mixer on medium speed for 2mins, making sure there are no lumps.
  • Pour cake batter into greased cake pan, tap on countertop to remove any bubbles.
  • Add 10 drops each of blue and red food coloring randomly all over top of cake batter
    10 drops red food coloring, 10 drops blue food coloring
  • Take a knife or chop stick and start at one corner of the cake pan to the other in a swirling motion move down to the bottom of the cake.
  • Bake for 34-38mins. or until toothpick test comes out clean.
  • Place on cooling rack in pan, allow to cool completely 1-2hrs before decorating. If putting on a cake platter remove from pan 10-15mins after allowing to cool.
  • Decorate as desired.
