Things To Know About Crystals

The use of crystals and their powers date back to as far as 400 BC. They were said to be used in Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, India, Ancient Greece or Ancient Rome. Throughout history crystals were viewed as symbols of purity, pleasure, faith and perfection, and used as a source of inspiration, devotion and creativity.

Most think that if you work with crystals that you are a Witch, or Pagan or Wiccan etc. When in reality you do not have to be of any religious background to work with crystals.

You can be a Yoga instructor who uses crystals to calm the aura in the room during class. You can be a healer who uses crystals for Chakras or in a water treatment for better health.

Crystals hold a universal and Earth-bound energy that interact with an individual’s energy. In the scientific world it has not been proven that crystals have any healing powers and is referred to as more of a placebo effect. As long as traditional treatments aren’t neglected, there is no evidence that crystals can do harm.

The body’s vibration, electrical charge, and functionality all play a big part on how crystals work.

Protection

Crystals were and still used today, to protect against negative energies. They can be worn on the body around the neck as an amulet or talisman, or even put in the pocket of your jeans. The Egyptians would bury the deceased with the crystal called Lapis Lazuli, this was to protect the dead in the afterlife.

In modern practice it is known that each stone has its own protection depending on the stone and its use.

Healing Powers

It is believed that crystals can have healing powers. The body uses levels of vibration known as Chakras and mindset for healing. Crystals can emphasize these qualities and how they might affect the body and its vibration, electrical charge, and functionality.

Vibrational Medicine¹

Vibrational medicine uses machines to unblock the bodies’ levels of vibration or chakras using different sound wave frequencies. By doing this you can think of it like a “reset” of your body. Similar to going to the chiropractor to get “aligned”. When you have a blocked chakra or chakras it can affect the way your body functions and your mentality as well.

Mindset²

The mind is a powerful thing and can even be more potent than vibrational energy healing. Using mindfulness meditation can help with immunity, focus, emotional processing, stress and anxiety.

Chakras

What are Chakras exactly? That’s a good question, Chakras are various center points in your body that correspond to specific nerve bundles and internal organs, and work with your body’s energy. There are 7 major chakras that you have probably heard of before, especially if you have ever taken a Yoga class, done some Meditation or have had any healing or cleansing rituals done like Reiki.

If you have never heard of Chakras here is a brief lesson on the 7 major chakras in your body. Let’s start from the top at the crown and work our way down the spine to the root. Below you will find a list of the 7 chakras and their meaning and what they do.

The 7 Major Chakras of your body

  • Crown– is located at the top of the head. Imagine like you are wearing a Crown, you place a crown at the top of your head. This chakra represents your spiritual connection to yourself, others as well as the universe. The Crown chakra also plays a role in your life’s purpose.
  • Third Eye– as you can guess is located between your eyes. And is responsible for those times you had a “gut” feeling about something. The Third eye chakra represents intuition and helps with imagination.
  • Throat– this chakra is located at your throat and has a lot to do with your ability to communicate verbally.
  • Heart– located in the center of your chest closets to your heart. If you haven’t already figured out the purpose of this chakra, it links to our ability to love and have compassion and be able to express these feelings.
  • Solar Plexus– another gut instinct that you sometimes feel can come from the Solar Plexus chakra. This chakra controls your confidence and self-esteem and helps you feel in control of your life.
  • Sacral– located just below the belly button is responsible for your libido and creative energy. This chakra is also responsible for how you relate to your emotions and the emotions of others.
  • Root– and now we are at the bottom of things. Ha get it? At the bottom, because we are at the Root. This chakra, located at the bottom of the spine (see I told you we were at the bottom of things), provides you with the foundation for life. It aids in helping you feel grounded and able to stand up to the challenges of everyday life. The Root chakra is the one responsible for your sense of security and stability.

Choosing your Crystals

Choosing your crystals is not a complicated task. You may have done your research already and know what you are looking for, or sometimes crystals choose you.

When a crystal chooses you, it is something pretty unique. The energy you may feel when you pick up a crystal or when you feel drawn to them is coming from the vibrational energy or your chakras. This feeling can be pretty intense sometimes or it can be something as simple as putting a smile on your face when you pick it up and hold it in your hand or even sometimes it make you feel sad or angry.

At the same time you might pick up a crystal and think of someone else who might be in need of this healing power and you choose to purchase that crystal for them rather than yourself.

When you are choosing a crystal the power it has is also something pretty amazing. When you pick up that stone for the first time you may feel this burst of energy, emotion, or sometimes your hand might start to tingle.

These are all signs of the energy between you and that stone. Sometimes this energy can be very overwhelming and that doesn’t necessarily mean that stone is not for you but that the stone might be too large and there is too much energy between you and stone. Try putting the stone back and picking a smaller one.

Here are a few great places to get some crystals.

Cleansing your Crystals

Cleansing your crystals is very important, and you will want to make sure you do this as soon as you bring them home.

You can do this with a sage bundle or incense stick. I like to use Dragon’s blood as it is sometimes more convenient and just as cleansing as a sage bundle. Like your sage bundle or incense stick and go over each crystal asking for all negative energy to leave and only keep the positive energy.

You can also cleanse with water and salt. Remember some crystals are sensitive to water, make sure you know your crystals and which ones can be in the water.

Now your crystals are good for use until you can fully cleanse and charge them on the next Full Moon or New Moon of the month.

Methods for cleansing:
  • Water
  • Salt Water
  • Salt
  • Smudging
  • Sand/Earth
  • Candle Flame
  • Water and Essential Oils
  • Sunlight & Moonlight

Charging your Crystals

You want to make sure that you are charging your crystals especially if you use them often. Charging your crystals releases any negative energy they may have gathered while in use and allows you to use their benefits to the fullest.

Methods for charging:
  • During a Full Moon
  • During a New Moon
  • Charging with other crystals
  • In the Sunlight *Remember some crystals are sensitive to sunlight, make sure you know your crystals and which ones can be in the sunlight and what time of day is best for charging -early morning, mid-afternoon, late afternoon/dusk-*
  • Charging with Salt *Remember some crystals are sensitive to salt, make sure you know your crystals and which ones can be in direct contact with salt*
